The Situation
You’re bringing a new key leader onto your small executive team and are in the final stages of the hiring process. So far so good. You want your candidate to meet a few members of the executive team and just have to firm up title. You are under the assumption the candidate will likely need a c-level title to accept your offer but you know that introducing a c-level title to a team that hasn’t introduced c-level titles will run the risk of pissing off an already overburdened leadership team.
There is no clear, right answer. You truly believe this hire will solve so many bandwidth and operational issues that everyone is feeling but your team might not take it the way you intend.
So, you seek out advice. You gather input from your board and advisors, weigh the pros and cons, but ultimately it’s your executive decision and you can make the case for either way.
